Sustainability

Our business goal is to ‘become a sustainable business for our people’.

This goal links with our mission ‘to do things right’ and vision ‘to successfully deliver to all our customers creating a sustainable business for our colleagues to be proud of’, so that we can deliver efficient and sustainable projects on time and on budget.

We have built a network of Champions through establishing our inhouse Sustainability Working Group, consisting of passionate and empowered employees. Within this group, our team members are helping us to promote, capture, deliver, communicate and report our sustainability initiatives and achievements.

The Sustainability Working Group have helped the business to identify the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) that fit best with our mission, vision, company values and our brand. We have committed to four of these goals which align to our business activities to ensure we can contribute the most to helping to achieve these goals.

UN SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

UN SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

UN SDG 14: Life Below Water

UN SDG 15: Life on Land

Our Sustainability Strategy

Our Sustainability Strategy is based around the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) framework and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals set to be achieved by 2030. We have defined what each of the four UN SDG’s mean to our business.

Our Sustainability Working Group, employees and customers will play a big part in helping us to implement our sustainability strategy.

Sustainability for our people

With the help of our people, we have made excellent progress in our sustainability journey so far and more information about how we are contributing to the UN Sustainability goals can be found in the video below.  We have influenced and collaborated with the wider Retail and Commercial businesses, which form an innovative, customer focused and solutions-oriented arm of the YTL Group, to share best practice and learnings to support sustainable growth across our group businesses.

As part of our continual development plan, we are proud to have achieved the gold accreditation for Supply Chain Sustainability School. The Sustainability Working Group are actively encouraging our employees to engage with this free learning and resources tool to expand our employee’s knowledge about sustainability. Our employees can learn at their leisure and apply what they are learning to their work and home lives.

Our Senior Leadership Team are actively engaging with the Sustainability School and have undertaken the Sustainability Assessment which provides us a baseline for identifying our current knowledge of sustainability within the business and we will use this information to identify areas to focus on to improve our knowledge and understanding of sustainability.

We are also delighted to be recognised as Winner for the 2023 UK Nuclear Skills Awards for the ‘Securing Sustainability through Skills Award’ for establishing our sustainability working group, developing our people’s transferable skills and engaging them with sustainability initiatives.

Turnbull became members of the Green Organisation in 2021. The Green Organisation is a non-profit environmental group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world and our membership has led to a total of 150 trees planted to date, under the auspices of Sustainably Run and the Trillion Tree campaign launched by the United Nations.
